Costin Popa – Vice-President

Music critic and journalist, member of the Romanian Composers and Musicologists Union, Department of Musicology, as well as of Romanian Professional Journalists Union (UZP), Costin Popa is the author of twelve dedicated volumes. Interviewing notable figures in the field of opera, orchestral and chamber music, he also wrote Ludovic Spiess, a monograph of the celebrated Romanian tenor, the Dicționar critic (și sentimental) de artiști lirici [Critic (and Sentimental) Dictionary of Singers] and more than one thousand pieces for paper and online publishing in and outside of Romania.

Blogger on adevarul.ro, Costin Popa was Editor-in-Chief of Melos and Opera/Melos magazines (since 1991), collaborating with Radio România Muzical since its establishment in 1997 and lecturing on vocal aesthetics, music criticism and journalism at the National University of Music Bucharest. Member of the jury for twenty-five national and international singing competitions, he was also lecturer and moderator for musicology conferences in Brăila, Bucharest, Constanța, and Cluj-Napoca.

Costin Popa was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit, Knight Grade by the President of Romania (2004) and is the recipient of the Romanian Composers and Musicologists Union Award (2020) as well as of other music criticism and journalism accolades (1996-2019), of the Order of Journalists – First Class (Gold) by the Professional Journalists Union (2007) and of excellence diplomas by the juries of the Vox Artis International Singing Competition Sibiu.
